Job Summary The Heavy Equipment Service Technician will service and repair Caterpillar heavy equipment and/or engines at our Prairieville, LA location or at customer sites.
Essential Functions
Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on all components of heavy equipment, including electrical systems, engines, fuel systems, hydraulics, power generation, and power trains.
Remove and install engine components per Caterpillar standards and technical service manuals.
Understand Caterpillar exchange parts processes and conduct financial cost analysis of repairs for customers.
Create, track, and formalize work orders using Caterpillar customer service report software.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in diesel mechanics preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic.
Extensive knowledge of diesel engine systems, diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance.
Must own required tool inventory (Louisiana Cat offers a Tooling Program discussed during interview).
Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong customer service skills, mechanical aptitude, professional demeanor, and a safety‑first mentality.
Job Facts
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; some Saturday shifts required. 40+ hours per week.
Physical Demands: Stand; use hands, reach, lift 75 lbs; endurance to stoop, kneel, crouch and squatting while performing mechanical operations. Operate and maintain a field service vehicle with GVW
Work Environment: Indoor moving parts, occasional exposure to weather extremes, loud noise, small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment. Protective equipment required.
