L4 Data Center Technician – B Side Day
Location: Mount Pleasant, WI (Onsite)
Contract: 6‑month contract position
Pay: $42.00 /hr
Shift: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, & every other Wednesday 6 a.m.-6 p.m.
Description We are seeking a highly skilled Level 4 Data Center Technician to join our IT team. The role focuses on break‑fix of GPUs, servers, network equipment, and cabling, as well as ticket management via ITSM. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience landing fully populated GPU or network racks within a data‑center environment, including rack movement, baying, leveling, grounding, hot‑air containment, and overhead cable containment trays. They should be familiar with interpreting BOMs, and possess strong knowledge of Ethernet cabling technologies (copper, fiber SM/MM/MPO, routing, dressing, connectors).
Responsibilities
Move, install, and inspect servers, switches, GPUs, and related components.
Cable equipment according to wire maps, ensuring neat bundles and compliance with standards.
Address break‑fix tasks: troubleshoot and replace faulty components, order replacement parts, update firmware, and configure IP addresses.
Coordinate with network admins for cable verification, optics replacement, and other network‑related issues.
Assist in launching new equipment: unboxing, pre‑setup, auditing consumables.
Deploy and configure GPUs in servers, ensuring proper installation and functionality.
Maintain ITSM ticketing system, record status updates, and provide documentation.
Lead and manage teams, prioritize workload, and monitor project deadlines.
Ensure compliance with safety measures and data‑center standards.
Provide daily communication and document progress using tracking mechanisms, MS Office, and digital photos.
Qualifications
10+ years of deployment and/or break‑fix experience in a data‑center environment.
Extensive experience landing fully populated GPU or network racks.
Strong knowledge of Ethernet cabling technologies (copper, fiber SM/MM/MPO, routing, dressing, connectors).
Experience with optical modules (SFP, QSFP) and fiber scoping/cleaning (SC, LC, MPO).
Experience racking, stacking, and patching fiber and copper cables.
Proven experience leading teams.
Willingness to travel as required.
Experience with DC power and DC‑powered equipment.
Strong communication skills and ability to document progress using tracking tools, MS Office, and photos.
Experience working in a Microsoft data‑center environment.
Familiarity with telecom engineering designs specific to enterprise‑level data centers.
Preferred Certifications
CompTIA A+ or equivalent
CompTIA Server+ or equivalent
CCENT or equivalent
CCNA (preferred)
MCP/MSCE (preferred)
Windows OS experience
Scripting experience – PowerShell, Python, Bash (preferred)
