Position:
Maintenance Technician II – South Bend, IN – Job ID 355 – Non‑Exempt – Hours: Night or Day; Rotating 8‑Hour Schedule – Pay: $30 per hour.
Job Summary Performs maintenance activities (preventative, routine, repair) on a variety of plastic injection molding machines to ensure optimum production, product quality, and safe machine operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Maintain plastic injection‑molding machinery (35%).
Analyze mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and operational problems of plastic injection‑molding machines.
Plan and take corrective action on related problems.
Make correct adjustments to ensure maximum production and quality of product.
Ensure all work meets required safety codes and is properly inspected.
Maintain effective equipment operations (30%).
Review production schedule to ensure machine(s) are ready for planned production or scheduled routine and preventative maintenance; make appropriate equipment changes as needed.
Perform scheduled maintenance activities as needed or according to schedule.
Test equipment to ensure optimum operations for production.
Perform corrective maintenance checks (30%).
Make preventative maintenance checks and inspections of assigned equipment.
Report findings to supervisor and take appropriate action.
Repair and diagnose problems with plastic injection‑molding machinery.
Repair and diagnose problems with manufacturing support equipment such as cranes, chillers, air compressors, cooling towers, and HVAC.
Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Manager, or Director of Operations (5%).
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals and blueprints.
Ability to effectively use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and manufacturing related equipment.
Ability to effectively present information management.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables when limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Possesses proficiency and understanding of all aspects of the job.
Experience with large‑tonnage plastic injection‑molding machines highly desired: Krauss Maffei, Haitian, Battenfeld, UBE, Cincinnati Milacron.
Experience with the following skills highly desired: electrical, hydraulics, robotics, pneumatics, mechanical, machining, welding, controls, HV/AC, facilities.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience in a manufacturing environment desired.
Requires 3 to 5 years of machine maintenance experience.
