Title Postal Supervisor

Season Austral Summer (Summer 2026-2027)

Location McMurdo Station, Antarctica

Salary $1,026 - $1,166 per week

Responsibilities

Supervises and operates the McMurdo APO in accordance with DOD, USAF, USPS, MPS, JMPA-PAC, and 6005 AIRPS standards.

Interprets, follows, and applies relevant directives and policies pertaining to MPS, Air Force postal operations, and financial issues in the PACAF command.

Controls, secures, and sells all postal stamp stocks and meter postage for the McMurdo Station, Antarctica post office.

Performs financial audits for the Postal Clerk's stamp stocks and documents the results of each audit.

Keeps a daily inventory of all stamps.

Writes, prepares, and reviews financial reports, letters, messages, forms, and documentation to ensure proper accounting procedures for the McMurdo Station APO.

Orders all stamps and postal equipment through the United States Postal Service.

Provides training to South Pole Mail Acceptance Unit personnel.

Supports the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Coast Guard postal departments.

Supervises sorting, receipt, and distribution of mail at McMurdo Station, Antarctica.

Manifests and prepares outgoing northbound and southbound mail for shipment.

Submits USPS postal claims for the South Pole and McMurdo Stations.

Completes PS3849s and PS3883s for accountable mail.

Follows all current PACAF directives for election mail.

Provides guidance to customers regarding proper mail preparation and acceptance.

Controls USPS and Air Force-owned accountable equipment on AMPS (PS1590).

Complies with all security regulations mandated by the USPS and DOD.

Completes a daily PS1412 for stamp and meter remittance, and a weekly PS1412 consolidation on AMPS.

Supervises and trains the McMurdo Postal Clerk in management of financial accounts, operations, equipment, and supplies.

Coordinates with the Christchurch APO office for movement of parcel and letter mail to and from Antarctica.

Ensures compliance with safety, environmental, health, and waste management policies.

Completes required Human Resources Supervisory Training.

Supervises and trains all mail room personnel.

Handles confidential matters in accordance with management policy.

Interacts professionally with the National Science Foundation, armed forces, and other agency officials, both over the phone and in person.

Implements and maintains a safe workplace program and prioritizes safety on the jobsite.

Participates in MCI training and drills as determined by supervisor.

Must be able to lift 75 pounds.

Performs other duties as required.

Education

BA/BS in Business Administration or other relevant degree required.

Relevant experience accepted in lieu of a degree.

Certifications and Licensing Requirements

Current ServSafe Food Handler certificate must be obtained prior to deployment to Antarctica.

Valid driver's license.

Valid U.S. Passport.

Experience

Minimum one year experience required in military APO, FPO or USPS operations.

Basic computer skills with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases required.

Previous supervisory experience required.

Previous experience with Station Services in Antarctica may be accepted in lieu of minimum experience.

Special Conditions

Must complete annual APO training.

Other Requirements

U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required.

Pre-employment Tier 1 - Elevated Background Investigation (EBI) required before deployment.
