REPORTS TO Station Service Assistant

SALARY $689 - $783 per week

SUMMARY Currently seeking a Retail Supervisor (South Pole Station) – Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the South Pole Station store, including stocking, opening/closing, cash handling, and mail distribution. Performs detailed accounting duties with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for store warehousing operations: receiving, issuing, storing, inspecting, and providing accountability for ASC controlled materials.

Ensure all inventory is received, tracked, and verified upon delivery.

Maintain the store and its merchandise in a professional and eye‑appealing condition.

Replenish stock on hand as required to meet daily demand.

Assist in the creation of displays and advertisements to maximize sales.

Issue and transfer stock from warehouse location to store as required.

Accurately ring up all sales and count the cash drawer following sales periods.

Maintain accuracy of the Point of Sales system, collaborating with the Station Services Assistant.

Maintain an accurate physical inventory, conducting monthly inventories, weekly spot checks, and bi‑annual physical inventories.

Collaborate with the Station Services Assistant on sales or donations prior to those activities.

Maintain open hours for the McMurdo population for at least half of total hours available; hours may vary based on station needs.

Reduce physical inventory quantities to prescribed levels based on stock demands and historical data.

Follow and apply DOD, USAF, PACAF, and USPS directives and policies as they pertain to postal operations and financial issues in the PACAF command.

Control, secure, and sell all postal stamp stocks and stamped paper necessary for the South Pole APO.

Process and record all USPS insurance claims.

Prepare and review financial reports, letters, messages, forms, and documentation for proper administration and accounting procedures.

Oversee and train mailroom personnel as needed.

Perform sorting, receipt, and distribution of mail at South Pole Station.

Provide a directory service for misrouted mail and mail addressed to personnel no longer at South Pole Station.

Control USPS and Air Force‑owned equipment.

Coordinate with the Movement Control Center for outgoing and incoming mail.

Occasionally lift 50–70 lbs, frequently lift 40 lbs, and constantly move 20–30 lbs.

Ensure compliance with Safety, Environment, Health, and Waste Management policies and procedures.

Interact with the National Science Foundation, armed forces, and other agency officials both over the telephone and in person, in a professional and tactful manner.

Support the achievement of ASC metrics and contractual commitments.

Assist with food services operations at least two days per week, including weekly food pulls and working in the dish room.

Comply with ASC Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals.

EDUCATION High School Graduate or GED.

CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSING REQUIREMENTS Current ServSafe Food Handler certificate must be obtained prior to deployment to Antarctica. Valid driver’s license required.

EXPERIENCE Minimum of two years experience in customer retail point-of-sales, handling and accountability of cash. Basic computer skills with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases are required. Prior work with Station Services in Antarctica may be accepted in lieu of minimum experience.

OTHER US citizenship or permanent residency required.
