Position will be based at Hanscom AFB, MA.
Position contingent on contract award.
We are seeking a Network Engineer to support the Department of the Air Force’s (DAF) Air Force Information Network (AFIN), a global digital communications infrastructure for secure and reliable communications. This position supports several key programs, including Cyber Security and Control Systems (CSCS), Air Force Intranet Control (AFINC), Base Information Transport Infrastructure (BITI), and Theater Deployable Communications (TDC). The Network Engineer will manage AFIN systems across Air Force and Space Force bases, support IT infrastructure, and assist in system integration and testing at facilities such as Hanscom Air Force Base. The role involves ensuring the performance, security, and evolution of DAF networks while integrating with emerging Enterprise Information Technology as a Service (EITaaS) initiatives.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Manage and maintain access to network management systems (NMS) in compliance with DoD and AF directives.
Plan, design, implement, and maintain local and wide area networks (LANs/WANs), including core nodes, access points, and critical distribution systems.
Troubleshoot network issues, including performance monitoring, device connectivity, and configuration management.
Provide Tier 3 support for NMS users, resolving hardware and software issues related to system functionality.
Respond to trouble tickets and coordinate with AFIN Response Center personnel for ticketing and incident management.
Monitor, maintain, and manage network traffic analysis using tools such as SolarWinds.
Perform system upgrades, configuration changes, and maintain system security in compliance with TO/TCTO.
Act as a technical liaison between project management offices and operational units, providing technical support and guidance.
Support disaster recovery and emergency restoration efforts across remote sites and ensure minimal downtime.
Author and update technical documentation for network policies, procedures, and system configurations.
Assist in asset management, tracking network components, software versions, and configurations.
Maintain network performance by performing regular testing and analysis and providing detailed performance reports.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field.
1-3 years of experience with networking and infrastructure best practices in medium-to-large scale data centers.
3-5 years of experience with Windows Server administration, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
3-5 years of experience managing SolarWinds or similar network management tools in production environments.
3-5 years of experience with VMware, including building, maintaining, and troubleshooting Guest and host OS.
Experience with SQL Server databases, including installation, management, and troubleshooting.
Ability to install, manage and troubleshoot Windows Servers, SQL Servers, provide technical support & guidance, perform system maintenance through IIS, SQL Database, registry edits, group policy, and maintain system security.
Minimum Certification Requirements
Information Assurance (IA) Technician (IAT) Level II (DODM 8140)
Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
VMware Certified Technical Associate
SolarWinds Certified Professional
Security Clearance
Valid DoD Secret clearance is required. Additionally, NATO Secret and/or DoD Top Secret/SSBI clearances, favorably adjudicated for SCI eligibility, are required at certain locations.
Candidate must meet eligibility requirements to access sensitive information, which requires U.S. citizenship.
