SUMMARY : Baker Civil Works is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the successful execution of civil construction and excavation projects. This role is responsible for managing projects from award through closeout, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements. The ideal candidate brings strong field coordination skills, financial awareness at the project level, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Project Execution & Coordination Manage civil construction projects from handoff through completion. Ensure projects are executed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and contract requirements. Develop, maintain, and update project schedules. Coordinate field operations, subcontractors, vendors, and internal resources. Monitor project progress and proactively identify and resolve issues impacting schedule, cost, or quality. Ensure compliance with SWPPP requirements, BMPs, and site‑specific environmental controls. Track project budgets, costs, and forecasts at the project level. Monitor actual costs versus estimates and identify variances. Support change order development, review, and execution in coordination with Operations. Assist with monthly project cost reporting and projections. Coordinate with Operations and Accounting on billings and project financial status. Identify potential risks, conflicts, or hindrances impacting project performance. Support documentation and pricing of change orders related to scope changes, delays, or constructability issues. Collaborate with Operations to address means and methods adjustments and constructability improvements. Client & Stakeholder Communication Serve as the primary point of contact for clients during project execution. Provide regular project updates and respond promptly to client concerns. Maintain strong working relationships with owners, inspectors, engineers, and other stakeholders. Foster a collaborative and professional working environment on all projects. Coordinate subcontractor activities and ensure compliance with contract requirements. Assist with vetting subcontractors when project scope exceeds internal capacity. Support procurement and buyout efforts for materials, equipment, and subcontracted work. Coordinate with rental teams to ensure appropriate equipment is available and utilized efficiently. Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with company safety policies, site‑specific safety plans, and regulatory requirements. Promote a culture of safety across project teams. Ensure proper documentation and reporting related to safety, quality, and compliance. EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in civil construction project management. Strong working knowledge of: utility excavation, heavy equipment operations, light concrete, asphalt placement and patch‑back, hardscape and light civil scopes Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Proven experience managing civil construction projects from award through closeout. Familiarity with public works requirements, including: unit pricing, green book standards, Caltrans or similar agency specifications (preferred) Understanding of PLA agreements and applicable labor requirements is a plus. Proficiency with project management software and cost tracking tools. Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
