Head Swim Coach The Bay Club Company invites applications for the Head Swim Coach position. The role reports to the Aquatics Director and focuses on delivering private and group swim instruction, maintaining safety, and providing outstanding customer service.

Job Summary Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Head Swim Coach is responsible for coaching clients to achieve their swimming goals, meeting personal revenue targets, and upholding a safe, effective learning environment.

Responsibilities

Provide instruction and give specific, corrective feedback to each client during sessions.

Design and deliver effective, rewarding swim sessions and workouts.

Perform swim evaluations to recommend suitable programs for parents and customers.

Maintain accurate, current records of client progress and follow progression guidelines.

Enforce all pool rules, aquatics center, and club policies.

Maintain a consistent work schedule, arrive punctually for sessions.

Communicate effectively with parents, members, and staff.

Track attendance of clients’ sessions and enter records into required systems.

Actively participate in events, program meetings, and training, including in‑service training.

Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the aquatics center.

Represent the club professionally through image, dress, communication, and follow‑through.

Supervise the activities of swimmers by consistently enforcing rules and regulations.

Notify swimmers of improper activities or hazards.

Rescue persons in distress or danger of drowning, providing rescue breathing, CPR, and first aid.

Report accidents, rescues, or problems to the Aquatics Director.

Report equipment issues requiring repair.

Answer inquiries about pool use and aquatics services.

Direct helpful suggestions from participants to the Aquatics Director or Club Management.

Attend all staff meetings and trainings.

Be available to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed; hours are not guaranteed and can change.

Be on time for your shift and rotations, wear uniform (with sunscreen applied) and complete daily pack checks.

Help keep the pool deck clean, safe, and organized.

Follow all safety procedures and precautions.

Provide high‑quality customer service.

Maintain focus on swimmers while guarding; re‑refer assistance to the Head Lifeguard or Service Desk if needed.

Fulfill all corporate duty expectations and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

Current Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED & First Aid certifications (adult, infant, toddler).

Experience teaching swim lessons for all ages, understanding best practices in learn‑to‑swim, competitive techniques, and child development.

Knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques, first aid, and ability to recognize and respond to hazardous situations.

Attentiveness to visual and audible cues for swimmer safety.

Proficient swimming ability and application of rescue and first‑aid techniques.

Effective communication skills; ability to engage positively with membership.

Sales and marketing knowledge for promoting and selling services.

Problem‑anticipation and deductive reasoning skills for identifying solutions and assessing alternatives.

Strong oral comprehension and expression; ability to convey ideas clearly.

Computer literacy: capable of developing and maintaining records in Word, Excel, and other TBCC software.

Physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather, handle equipment up to 50 pounds, and perform frequent lifting, kneeling, crouching, and movement.

Flexibility to adapt to changing environments and public contact.

Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Working Conditions

Work outdoors with variable weather conditions.

Standard work schedule; required to be punctual and available on weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Public contact is daily; may encounter unpleasant or angry individuals.

Frequent use of hands and arms; occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.

Walking around the facility; occasional sitting for extended periods.

Ability to talk, hear, and move 10 pounds (50 pounds in emergencies).

Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Compensation Estimated Base Pay Range: $17.73 – $40.00 per hour.
