Join Our Team as a Mosquito Control Maintenance Worker! The City of Virginia Beach Public Works – Mosquito Control Division is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team. As a Mosquito Control Maintenance Worker, you will engage in essential maintenance tasks that directly contribute to the health and safety of our community. Your responsibilities will include:
Perform maintenance work requiring the utilization of specific skills associated with drainage maintenance and the application of pesticides for mosquito control.
Will remove objects from work areas that impede drainage; bush and grade ditches to maintain efficient water runoff; apply larvicide to areas harboring mosquito larvae and pupae or having the potential to harbor these to reduce mosquito populations; apply adulticide in areas with known high levels of mosquito activity.
Apply herbicide to areas where vegetation obstructs proper drainage; cut/clear trees and heavy brush to gain access to drainage areas; mix and apply chemicals per specifications on the label for field applications.
Lift materials and other items up to 50 lbs. regularly.
Applicants will be required to obtain and maintain either a Registered Technician’s License or Category B Pesticide Applicator’s License within six (6) months of employment.
Work Location: 1848 Pleasant Ridge Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23457
Position is ALPHA I and is required to work during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricane, snow, etc.) and/or in response to short-term department needs and/or City‑wide emergencies.
This is a safety‑sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug tests may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including termination. A pre‑employment physical is required.
