Ground Maintenance Worker

The City of Yankton is seeking qualified internal applicants for Grounds Maintenance Worker in the Department of Parks & Recreation. An employee in this position is responsible for performing tasks which may include but not limited to repairs and maintenance on park buildings, constructing park equipment and other structures; maintaining parks and grounds by cutting grass, removing debris and litter, tree and flower planting and care, applying herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides; operating small and large power equipment such as skid loaders, mowers, edgers, hand tools, heavy equipment, etc. Also performs snow removal and may assist with tasks for other divisions within the department. This position includes being on call, working evenings and weekends. Applicants must have at least one year’s experience in maintenance work. In addition, the successful candidate must possess a valid South Dakota commercial driver’s license or be able to obtain the same within 6 months of the following appointment. This is a regular full-time position. The salary range for this position is Range 26, $44,634 to $56,507. The City of Yankton participates in the required State Retirement plan and matches the six percent (6%) employee contribution deduction. The City will provide a bi-weekly accrued amount up to two weeks of vacation (80 hours) per year and additional vacation thereafter based on years of service cumulatively from the 80-hour base. The City provides sick leave at a rate of 8 hours per month for a full-time employee which can be accumulated to 960 hours. The City has 11 paid (8 hours) holidays and three personal days to be used at any time throughout the year, pending supervisor approval. You may apply online at www.cityofyankton.org .
