Shift/Schedule 7:45 a.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Facility Open Days Seven days a week / 365 days a year
Job Summary The Medical Assistant functions under the direction of the Physician, Clinical Lead, Clinical Nurse Supervisor, Nurse Supervisor, and/or Office Manager. The assistant recognizes patient needs and symptoms in advance, provides care under the physician’s direction, prepares patients for exams, assists during treatments, coordinates tests and follow‑up care, and records treatment in the medical record. The assistant explains patient instructions to the patient/family and demonstrates competency across all age groups, including neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. All duties related to front‑office registration, laboratory testing, and radiology functions within a specialty setting are performed as required.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Clinical and Non-Clinical Duties and Expectations
Register patients upon entrance to facility
Perform all necessary registration operations
Prepare equipment and rooms and aid physician with patient treatment
Perform vitals and other duties to prepare patients
Rotate among various clinical and non‑clinical service areas such as lab, x‑ray, and front office
Address main safety needs of patients
Cross‑train other team members
Diagnostic Imaging Duties and Expectations
Perform radiographic and other diagnostic imaging procedures to assist clinical team and physicians in patient treatment
Prepare and position patients for imaging procedures, ensuring proper techniques including radiation protection
Obtain optimum views as ordered by the physician
Process images and review for proper identification and quality control
Cross‑train other team members
Complete and maintain logs, reports, and documentation
Laboratory Duties and Expectations
Start laboratory equipment daily and maintain logs and documentation as requested
Perform laboratory tests according to orders and instructions
Draw blood samples from patients and perform Point‑of‑Care testing
Order and stock supplies weekly
Perform daily quality control and cleaning procedures according to guidelines
Cross‑train other team members
Patient Liaison
Provide relationship‑based patient‑centered care that is consistent with population‑specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity
Always partner with the patient and significant others or family (as appropriate) using appropriate methods for setting and purpose to keep patients at ease and make patient goals the focus of the plan of care
Practice using current clinical practice standards
Team Work and Collaboration
Coordinate delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care that promotes a professional care delivery model, including diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods
Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner that promotes recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members>
Professional Development and Initiative
Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, mandatory education, and population‑specific education
May be asked to serve as a preceptor for onboarding Medical Assistants/students and be an exemplary role model for all staff or students across disciplines to ensure a current and future qualified workforce, modeling professionalism and creating a healthy work environment
Evidence Based Practice and Research
Promote evidence‑based practice regarding safe, quality patient care and participate in value analysis to evaluate patient care products
Uphold all health care system/organizational policies, procedures, and clinical competencies, including legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements and standards such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and WellStar Health System safety absolutes; may serve as a Safety Coach
Participate in data collection, pose relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence‑based practice, consult appropriate experts, and use resources to address practice questions
Resources and Support
Proactively plan for patient care across the continuum while providing direct patient care
Participate in development of protocols and procedures when called upon or through self‑initiation in collaboration with care managers and other team members to achieve best practice outcomes
Support efficient and effective use of human and material resources
Perform other duties as assigned
Comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education
High School Diploma (General) or GED (General)
Other / Certificate (Medical Assisting)
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)
Certified Medical Assistant
Basic Life Support (BLS) – Instructor
Additional License(s) and Certification(s) Phlebotomy certification within 60 days preferred.
Must complete the required OSHA training course for operators of radiology equipment within 60 days of hire.
Must have successfully passed a Medical Assistant credentialing body examination (AAMA, AMT) upon hire.
Required Minimum Experience Work experience in a practice setting preferred.
Specific Experience In Practice Specialty Required Radiology experience preferred; will provide training within first 60 days. Required.

Must be organized and attentive to detail
Must be able to work quickly and efficiently to assure patient comfort and satisfaction
Able to communicate and understand verbal and written English language, optimize the use of technology to support clinical care, and hold basic computer skills
