As a Registered Nurse at MercyOne, you will provide patient care in outpatient settings and are responsible for delivering safe, effective, and evidence-based patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You will coordinate care, support patient and family education, and ensure communication across healthcare teams.
Infectious Diseases Managed
Bone and joint infections, including prosthetic joint infections
Central nervous system infections
Complicated respiratory tract infections
Endocarditis and other vascular infections
Fever of unknown origin
Hepatitis B and C testing and treatment
HIV infection and primary care services for HIV patients
Infections in high‑risk pregnancy
Infections in immunocompromised hosts (solid organ and stem cell transplant recipients)
Infections with MRSA, VRE, ESBL, CRE and other multi‑drug resistant organisms (MDROs)
Intra‑abdominal infections
Invasive fungal infections
Other device infections
Other viral infections
Post‑exposure prophylaxis (PEP)
Pre‑exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for individuals at risk for HIV infection
Recurrent infections
Recurrent or complicated urinary tract infections
Recurrent or refractory Clostridium difficile infection
Recurrent or refractory skin and soft tissue infections
STI testing and treatment
Tuberculosis and non‑tuberculous mycobacterial infections
Responsibilities
Provide patient care in outpatient settings and deliver safe, effective, evidence‑based patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Coordinate care provided by other clinical staff, support patient and family education, and ensure communication across healthcare teams.
Ensure compliance with clinical standards and operate with minimal supervision.

Plan, assess, intervene, and provide direct patient care using critical thinking and nursing processes.
Perform comprehensive patient assessments (physical, psychosocial, nutritional, functional, safety, spiritual, cultural, educational); make nursing decisions based on patient status and care needs.
Administer medications and treatments safely via multiple routes and document accordingly.
Perform nursing care, lab and diagnostic tests, specimen collection, phlebotomy, and limited radiology procedures following policies and universal precautions.
Assist providers with patient care, communications, scheduling, consents, admissions, referrals, and outpatient procedures.
Communicate and collaborate with physicians, staff, patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams regarding care plans and patient needs.
Educate patients, families, and clinical staff on treatments, medications, test preparation, discharge, and health maintenance; document education and evaluate understanding.
Participate in staff meetings, committees, quality improvement, risk management, and performance improvement projects.
Maintain documentation accuracy and completeness in EMR: assessments, vitals, symptoms, treatments, medications, education, charges, lab results, histories, and consults.
Maintain and monitor supplies, equipment, medication stock, and office machines; follow maintenance and quality control protocols; report malfunctions.
Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergency patient needs and initiate emergency procedures.
Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.
Maintain a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, and Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, and other policies and procedures.
Education
Active RN License in the state of Iowa; licensure from other states may be required based on location; compact state license acceptable where applicable.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within 3 months of hire.
Proficient in basic computer skills (Windows, web navigation, email, MS Office).
Ability to work with diverse groups of people in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
Requires the ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
Completion of specialty classes or proof of other certifications required for some roles.
