OFFICE ASSISTANT (Part-time) Joy House – Milwaukee Rescue Mission Division for Women & Children provides emergency and long‑term support to women and children. Joy House seeks a Christian woman to fill a part‑time, 2nd shift Office Assistant position, providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of Joy House’s centralized coordination and communication hub. This is a key position to demonstrate guest care, hospitality and encourage positive interactions among staff and guests.
WORK SCHEDULE Part‑time (25 hrs/week) 2nd shift – 5:00 pm‑10:00 pm.
LOCATION Central Campus, 830 N. 19th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53233.
RESPONSIBILITIES Perform telephone assessments with all callers and schedule emergency intakes when necessary.
Answer and direct incoming phone calls to appropriate staff, take messages and communicate appropriate information to callers.
Confirm, greet, and direct evening volunteers.
Monitor the Joy House lobby and dayroom to maintain a calming atmosphere.
Assign guest lockers and assist guests with accessing their medications, copying forms and documents, and addressing other needs.
Process mail and distribute to guests.
Assist 2nd shift staff with daily tasks when necessary (e.g., escorting families to meals, check‑ins).
Communicate shift events via electronic log on occasion.
QUALIFICATIONS A Christian woman who is able to relate well with others in a diverse population.
Undergraduate degree, preferably in an applicable field (social work, hospitality, communications, office management, data entry) and/or 2‑4 years of office/administrative work experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong organizational, prioritization, and time‑management skills.
Detail‑oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
Ability to work effectively with diverse families, to use discretion and to stay calm and tactful under pressure.
Ability and willingness to follow instructions, to be flexible and a team player.
Must be able to handle physical workload – stand or sit for long periods, walk, stair‑climb, kneel, squat, crouch, reach, handle, grip without difficulty, repetitive movement of both hands and arms, occasional lifting or moving items up to 55 lbs a short distance, and pushing or pulling heavier items with a cart or dolly.
A workplace demeanor consistent with a Christian church environment: civil, respectful, polite, and responsive.
Be in agreement with and subscribe to the MRM Statement of Faith and the MRM Statement of Biblical Convictions.
Be a committed follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, which is evident in personal testimony and Christian conduct.
Pass a pre‑employment background check and drug test.
