Substation Technician
The Substation Technician provides for the operation, installation, testing, checkout and maintenance of substation and associated equipment on the 1803 system. Responsible for working safely while following all safety rules, procedures, and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Performs maintenance on substation equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, voltage regulators, reclosers, mobile substations, load tap changers, station batteries and chargers, capacitor banks, circuit switchers, motor operators, and associated equipment
Performs and/or assists in the installation, testing, checkout of all new substation equipment
Performs routine inspection of substations, switching stations, and capacitor bank equipment
Develops and updates maintenance procedures along with maintaining equipment records in area of responsibility.
Provides key insights and suggestions on the buildout of any protective systems across the 1803 territory.
Ensures proper alarm and diagnostics monitoring is in place and functioning.
Makes recommendations for procurement of maintenance equipment, tools, parts, and training.
Regularly travels to various sites to perform tasks or inspect equipment and systems.
Coordinates and monitors contractors’ activities when required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Willingly accepts range of Exhibits a “can do” attitude toward future challenges.
Knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems.
Complete understanding of one-line diagrams and engineering drawings and schematics.
Skilled in using substation test equipment and documentation to diagnose equipment problems and effect repairs, or to ensure proper performance of equipment.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions required on job sites.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to manage assigned work responsibilities in an independent manner.
Excellent written and oral communication skills (e.g. reports, emails, presentations).
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with others, both inside and outside the organization.
Ability to think logically and independently to accomplish the goals of the organization.
Ability to obtain a Class “A” commercial driver’s license from the State of Louisiana.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in Electronic Technology, or Education can be substituted with suitable work experience
Must hold a valid driver’s
