Role Overview Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and Principal, the Custodian will assist and support our schools in maintaining a high level of cleanliness and orderliness in classrooms and around campus.
Essential Responsibilities
Work as a team member to make our school a wonderful place. Engage with students to become one of the family.
Conduct all business in accordance with Momentum policies and procedures, state and federal laws; e.g., OSHA, ADA, Fair Housing, etc.
Maintain awareness of proper safety procedures and take necessary precautions
Constantly observe the condition of school property throughout the community and immediately report and/or initiate action to correct unsafe conditions
Engage with students in being a steward of their environment
Physically walk the property on a frequent basis and remove litter, debris from the grounds
Remove all trash and transfer to the dumpster
Transfer trash and other items left outside of dumpster into the dumpster. Pick-up and sweep area. Keep dumpster doors closed on windy days.
Keep an inventory of supplies needed and alert leader when supply runs low
Follow scope of work defined by school leaders including but not limited to:
Washes windows, handrails, window sills, etc.
Dust and mop floors
Cleans bathrooms and removes trash mid-day
Performs work area clean‑up and safety related duties
Perform minor repairs and touch‑up paint
Shoveling and salting
Work collaboratively with the regional facilities and notify them in a timely manner of any maintenance needs
Perform any additional duties assigned
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred
Qualifications
A minimum of one year of custodial experience
Meet all physical demands of the position
Able to take direction.
Work quickly and efficiently
Experience working with elementary-age youth or in a school setting is strongly preferred
Ability to think outside the box and do whatever it takes to get the job done
Willingness to accept, implement, and grow from constructive feedback
A strong commitment and high expectations for cleanliness and organization
Physical Requirements
Bend/Stoop/Squat/Kneel Perform routine cleaning, pick up debris
Climb Stairs Routine duties require access to all levels
Push or Pull Move equipment, appliances, open and close doors, etc.
Comfortably operating cleaning machinery
Reach above the Shoulder. Perform routine maintenance/repairs, stock and remove equipment, place trash in the dumpster
Climb Ladders, Perform routine cleaning
Grasp/Grip/Turning Handle tools and equipment, perform routine cleaning
Finger Dexterity: Handle tools and equipment, perform routine cleaning
Lifting/carrying (supplies, trash receptacles, ladders, etc.): Occasional need (1% to 33% of the time) 25 - 75 lbs. Frequent need (33% to 66% of the time) 1 - 25 lbs. Constant need (66% to 100% of the time)
Compensation The salary for this position begins at $36,608 annually, paid at $17.60 per hour and increases based on years of experience, certification(s), and highest level of education.
Schedule & Work Environment Custodians are expected to be present for core hours of 7:15 AM to 4 PM during the school year from August to May. Summer hours in June to July may differ.
