Position Summary: The ESOL Instructor position involves teaching and supporting Adult English learners through engaging, culturally responsive curriculum and diverse delivery methods. Classes are held in person but utilize online formats. The role emphasizes student success through consistent feedback, collaboration with education teams, and data drive strategies to improve outcomes, Candidates with experience in adult education, diverse populations and knowledge of language acquisition best practices are preferred, with the flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and continually revise curriculum that includes multicultural perspectives, core abilities, and technical content to meet college or industry standards to prepare students for successful careers

Utilize engaging instructional strategies and methodologies that foster student success both in and outside of the classroom

Create learning experiences that integrate multiple alternatives or emerging delivery methodologies and instructor technologies to maximize student success, including hybrid, face-to-face, videoconferencing, self-paced, and online course delivery

Provide immediate, routine, and consistent feedback to students to assist them in improving performance in technical and core ability competencies

Administer pretesting, placement assessment, and post testing (every 8 weeks)

Collaborate with the educational team on strategies for recruitment, orientation, program marketing, and referral of students as needed for tutoring, counseling, etc.

Use data to measure outcomes related to student persistence, retention, completion rate, course success, and to design improvement strategies based on the evidence

Maintain proficient knowledge and skill in emerging trends by participating in team action plans and professional development

Facilitate completion of required reporting and paperwork, PEP (personal education plans for students), registration forms, attendance, and pre-/post-test results

Prepare and present on programming internally, at conferences, advisory committees, and workgroup sessions

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education with TESOL endorsement, Master’s degree preferred with preference given in ESL, Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL), Teaching English as a Second Language, Applied Linguistics or Foreign Language Instruction.

Occupational experience: Minimum of one-year teaching experience, would consider candidates with student teaching experience in an ESL program.

Previous teaching experience with adult learners is preferred

Ability to work nonstandard hours, including evening and weekends hours

Demonstrated skill and sensitivity for diverse and immigrant populations

Knowledge of language acquisition, language instructor, and English language learner best practices

Candidates that have successful teaching experience with minority students or in minority communities are preferred

Inside typical office environment, heated and air conditioned. Temperature 68 to 80 degrees F. Ambient noise, low, not requiring hearing protection. No other personal safety equipment required.

Physical Demands: Must be able to meet the following physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation:

Use hands to manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment;

Talk to other employees/clients and hear them;

See and be able to read, write, and interpret written documents;

Occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 15 pounds.
