Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. (QARI) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting immigrant and low-income families through programs in health, workforce development, literacy, and community services. In New York City, QARI operates the school-based GROW (Guidance, Resources, Outreach, and Wellness) program and other community-based ESOL classes in Queens and the Bronx, partnering with schools, community centers, and local organizations to make English language learning accessible to adults seeking personal and professional growth. QARI is seeking a dedicated and dynamic ESOL Instructor to teach in-person English classes for adult immigrant learners in New York City. The instructor will deliver engaging, student-centered lessons that build English language proficiency and confidence, and will help create welcoming classroom environments that support learners’ goals at work, home, and in the community.
FLSA Status : Non-Exempt
Hours/Week Category : Part Time
Reports To : Adult Education Lead
Location : Queens and/or Bronx, NY
Responsibilities
Teach in-person ESOL classes for adult immigrant learners at QARI’s GROW program and other local community partner sites.
Plan and deliver lessons aligned with students’ goals and English proficiency levels.
Incorporate culturally responsive, communicative, and task-based teaching methods.
Support students with goal setting and connect them to additional community or educational resources as needed.
Assess and track student progress through informal and formal evaluation tools.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, student progress, and class activities.
Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development activities.
Collaborate with QARI staff and community partners to support student engagement and retention.
Contribute to program evaluation by collecting student feedback and success stories.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
BS/BA in Education or related field, TESOL Certificate and/or Masters preferred.
Minimum 1 year of workplace or related ESOL training/teaching experience preferred.
Preferred bilingual candidate, including oral and written proficiency, in English and Spanish or Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese).
Strong understanding of adult learning theory and learner-centered instruction.
Ability to work with a diverse group of clients in flexible settings (i.e. workplace, community sites).
Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, including online/virtual teaching.
Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Detail oriented and able to keep records and systems organized.
Demonstrated use of technology and online applications (GSuite, Google Meet/Drive, Zoom).
Flexible schedule, including some evenings and/or weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
