Job Description Student Media Assistant (SPRING) – The School of Meteorology is seeking a part‑time student assistant to help produce and share news about the school’s students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners.

Responsibilities

Read, sort, research, write, and film informational pieces highlighting the achievements of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners.

Design and produce pieces that can be shared with the School’s audience on the website and social media outlets.

Build, maintain, and engage the School of Meteorology Alumni social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn).

Assist with other duties as assigned, which may vary by season (e.g., organization of offices, assisting with school events).

Work closely with School IT and Academic staff to ensure accurate and timely delivery of stories.

Schedule & Compensation Part‑time, hybrid. 10–20 hours per week on a flexible schedule. Targeted hourly rate: $13.00 per hour, based on experience.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in the Spring semester at the University of Oklahoma.

Major in meteorology, geography, environmental science, computer science, engineering, or a related discipline. Meteorology majors or minors with sophomore status or above preferred.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Premiere, and social media platforms.

Experience in broadcast journalism, video editing, or photography is advantageous.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; on‑screen comfort is required.

Detail oriented, able to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and maintain confidentiality.

Positive interaction with students, faculty, staff, and non‑university individuals.
