Cytogenetic Technologist I – Lewisville, TX Overview Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with rotational weekend shifts. Perform tests requiring independent judgment in sub‑specialties for which you are qualified by education, training, and experience.

Pay Range $33.00+ per hour. Salary offers consider skills, training, experience, education, certifications, and organizational factors. Successful candidates may receive an annual performance bonus.

Responsibilities

Accurately perform tissue culture of assigned specimen types, including initiation, maintenance, harvest, slide preparation, and staining.

Perform accurate microscopic/post‑microscopic analyses and prepare karyotypes using established cytogenetic laboratory procedures.

Accurately perform FISH or array on assigned specimen types, maintain QC records, and analyze results.

Process fluorescence in situ hybridization specimens: slide preparation, pretreatment, hybridization, post‑wash, and counterstain.

Document and maintain accurate tissue culture and/or microscopy analysis records.

Document chromosome or FISH abnormalities using correct ISCN nomenclature.

Adhere to testing methodology and quality standards to ensure accurate specimen processing.

Maintain turnaround times for results including critical results to clients.

Keep laboratory areas and equipment safe, functional, and sanitary.

Complete training and competency checklists.

Assist supervisor with training of other staff, students, and fellows.

Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.

Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work‑practice controls as directed.

Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections if needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

One (1) year full‑time experience in a clinical cytogenetics laboratory.

Bachelor’s Degree (required).

Current ASCP Certification in Cytogenetics [ASCP‑CG] (required).

Manual dexterity, excellent pattern recognition, and detail‑oriented.

Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Interpersonal and communication skills for client and team interactions.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems.

Physical & Mental Requirements

May require lifting up to 25 lbs occasionally; extended periods of sitting at a microscope.

Requires standing or sitting for long periods in a small, darkroom environment for FISH work.

Manual dexterity and manual pipette use demanded.
