SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare, and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Compensation : We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly rate for this position is $17.95 and is commensurate with experience.

The

Janitor

keeps buildings in clean and orderly condition. The Janitor performs heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Duties may include performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of the need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris from the sidewalk.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (40 hours per week)

Required:

Some High School education; 1+ years of janitorial experience; work in a residential setting is helpful.

Expected Contributions:

Maintain the overall cleanliness of the apartment building, common, and amenity areas

Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors; clean restrooms

Maintain curb appeal by ensuring trash is removed from the property

Take out the trash from common areas and other designated locations

Clean and sanitize surfaces in all common areas

Deep clean common space, resident kitchens monthly, and bathrooms quarterly

Informs the manager of any building safety or maintenance concerns

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Must commit to service excellence with a friendly and positive attitude

Maintain a professional appearance and friendly attitude toward residents and community staff while maintaining required boundaries

Able to keep up with the physical demands of being on your feet and walking for much of the day

Exceptional attention to detail and quality

Ability to take direction, work productively on one’s own, and adhere to a schedule

Must be able to complete the cleaning duties checklist daily

Position Designation:

This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing before or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands : Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods. Must be able to travel to events and meetings off‑site.
