Overview
DSHS SCC Residential Rehabilitation Counselor 2 at the Special Commitment Center (SCC), located within the Total Confinement Facility (TCF) on McNeil Island in the picturesque Puget Sound. The SCC is a highly structured, secure treatment facility dedicated to helping individuals who are detained and/or civilly committed address their sexual offending histories.
Responsibilities
Oversee the daily operations of the residential unit, implementing effective residential treatment strategies.
Provide direct day‑to‑day monitoring and care for the resident population, engaging residents and assisting them in developing skills and becoming positive members of society.
Assist and coach residents in acquiring life skills necessary for a successful transition back into the community.
Instruct and encourage residents while maintaining regular interaction and redirecting them when necessary.
Stay informed about changes to residents’ treatment goals and offer support and motivation.
Escort residents to and from different areas/locations within TCF.
Monitor resident use of prescription medications and ensure safety and security throughout the living environment through routine inspections.
Provide accurate and detailed written documentation and reports on residents’ progress toward treatment goals.
Qualifications
High school graduation or GED, with at least one year of direct care experience for individuals with behavioral health issues.
College‑level coursework can substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Equivalent education/experience will also be considered.
Lead by example, possess CPR and first aid knowledge, demonstrate collaboration and communication skills, and exhibit strong judgment with safety protocols.
Benefits $10 per day premium pay, free Orca card for transportation, ferry transportation provided from Steilacoom dock, evening and night shift differentials, and an additional 5% premium for working on site at least three days a week. Eligible applicants will also have the opportunity to participate in an optional Q&A session via Teams.
