Responsibilities
Drive bus, van, or transport vehicle to transport passengers over a specified route on a time schedule in a courteous, confidential, and safe manner.
Operate and safely drive a bus (up to 30 feet long) in either good or adverse weather conditions.
Communicate bus rules/safety and behavior requirements to passengers; address improper behavior immediately.
Assist passengers boarding the bus when necessary.
Inspect buses daily to identify and report deficiencies.
Perform vehicle maintenance procedures such as fluid/fuel level checks, tire pressure checks, wash and clean (internally and externally), install tire chains, and perform other normal daily maintenance as required.
Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
Understand and comply with local traffic regulations and federal, state, and city laws regarding bus operation.
Complete all records/reports timely and accurately (pre-trip, post-trip, mileage, times, passenger names) and submit to Operations Manager.
Maintain a clean driving record and pass driver safety course, CPR/First Aid certification, drug and alcohol test, and background check.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 1 year of work experience, preferably as a bus driver.
Valid Idaho driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Must be 18 years or older due to FTA regulation.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondences, and memos.
Ability to present information one-on-one to passengers, parents, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to apply common sense and carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical ability to sit for long periods, stand, walk, occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds, reach with hands and arms.
Vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus to required standards.
