Job Summary

Responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and related events.

Pick up and drop off students at designated locations such as street corners or homes.

Transport students in a timely manner while following safety procedures and State Board of Education rules and regulations.

Operate the school bus safely in good or adverse weather, road and traffic conditions while protecting passengers.

Comply with traffic regulations and operate vehicles in a courteous manner.

Communicate bus rules, safety and behavior requirements to passengers; address improper behavior immediately.

Communicate with students’ parents to solve inappropriate or unsafe behavior and utilize strong interpersonal communication skills.

Assist students and passengers boarding and unloading the bus, including wheelchair students and adaptive equipment.

Inspect buses daily to identify and report deficiencies.

Perform vehicle maintenance procedures such as checking fluid and fuel levels, tire pressure, cleaning internal and external areas, installing tire chains, and other normal daily maintenance as required.

Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.

Know and comply with federal, state, district, and DOT regulations regarding school bus operation and drug/alcohol testing requirements.

Complete all records and reports accurately and submit to the Transportation Department.

Read maps, follow written and geographic directions according to route/trip logs.

Operate a two‑way radio and maintain cleanliness to ensure safe operating conditions.

Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Other Experience and Qualifications

Class A or B CDL, or ability to obtain.

Endorsements: Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) or as required.

Ability to pass a medical examination.

Demonstrated problem‑solving ability.

Interpersonal skills: maintain confidentiality, be open to innovative ideas, work independently and as part of a team.

Communication skills: organize thoughts, speak persuasively, conduct effective meetings; good writing skills with proper spelling, punctuation, grammar and editing.

Ability to interpret and communicate written information and present numerical and statistical data effectively.

Planning and organizing: prioritize and plan work activities to ensure timely completion of projects.

Quality focus: demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness and monitor own work to ensure quality.

Adaptability: adapt quickly to a changing work environment and manage competing demands in a productive way.

Dependability: consistently be at work on time, follow instructions, respond to management direction and seek feedback to improve performance.
