Under direct supervision of the Aquatic Center Supervisor and related management team, supervises operations, programs and maintenance of the aquatic facility in conjunction with or in the absence of the Aquatic Management Team. Enforces pool rules and regulations, performs water rescues including administering CPR or First Aid, and assists with general maintenance of City Pool, pool areas and administrative duties.

The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description.

Essential Job Functions

Assists in supervision of aquatic facility operations, programs and maintenance in conjunction with or in the absence of the Aquatic Management Team.

Watches and observes patrons in and around the pool.

Enforces pool rules and regulations to maintain a safe recreation environment.

Assists or rescues swimmers who need help.

Checks daily attendance, handles entry fees, and assists customers.

Performs general cleaning of the facility and pool area before, during and after pool hours.

Assists with pool maintenance procedures.

Other Important Duties

Opens and closes the facility when assigned.

Swims ¼ mile per day when working.

Provides basic first aid and prepares incident reports.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of customer service practices and techniques.

Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and procedures related to handling possible infectious or hazardous materials.

Knowledge of money handling techniques and methods.

Knowledge of City policies and procedures.

Skill in responding appropriately to emergency situations including safely performing water rescues and administering CPR and/or First Aid.

Skill in interacting with all age groups.

Skill in effective oral and written communications.

Skill in enforcing swimming pool rules, regulations, practices and procedures.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

Must have completed two years of high school and two (2) summers of experience as a lifeguard or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess current Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid Certifications.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and/or post-offer physical exam.

May be required to possess valid State of Texas Drivers License.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements

Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor aquatic environment.

May be subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, infectious diseases, air and water borne pathogens.

May be subject to extended periods of swimming, bending, reaching, kneeling and lifting such as instructing patrons, administering First Aid or CPR.

May be subject to working extended or split shifts including mornings, evenings and weekends.

Equipment and Tools Utilized

Equipment utilized includes personal computer, copier, calculator, fax machine, other standard office equipment, cash register, cleaning supplies, pool safety and rescue equipment, pool filters, pumps, vacuums, sweepers and department vehicles.
