Job Summary Under minimal supervision, the Environmental Technician is responsible for performing environmental inspections, data collection, and reporting activities to support environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies. This role provides environmental compliance field support during and after construction activities across multiple assets within the assigned region.
The Environmental Technician will collaborate closely with environmental support staff and construction teams to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations and permits. Responsibilities include conducting inspections, collecting and managing environmental data, preparing compliance reports, and communicating findings to appropriate internal stakeholders in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
Perform environmental inspections within the assigned region using approved forms and methods, ensuring compliance within regulatory timeframes.
Collect environmental data to support compliance reporting and documentation.
Prepare and submit environmental reports as assigned.
Advise and provide quality assurance for field activities to ensure adherence to environmental laws and permit requirements.
Train and assist field personnel on environmental regulations and permit compliance.
Promote and enforce safe work practices to protect employees, contractors, the public, and company facilities.
Support environmental compliance reviews and audits.
Communicate environmental compliance issues clearly to appropriate internal teams.
Maintain environmental documentation and records in accordance with content management standards.
Travel between company assets and plants while practicing safe driving techniques.
The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of some of the following:
State and local erosion and sediment control permits
Aboveground and underground storage tanks
Transportation of hazardous materials
Solid and hazardous waste management
Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures (SPCC)
Wastewater, stormwater, groundwater, and drinking water monitoring
Oil and chemical spill response
Air emissions monitoring and reporting
Asbestos and PCB management
Pollution prevention practices
Environmental site assessments
Emergency planning and community right-to-know programs
Qualifications Education
High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental science or a related field preferred
Previous military experience may be considered in place of an associate degree
Experience
Minimum of 1 year of experience with a bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 3 years of experience with an associate degree
Minimum of 5 years of experience with a high school diploma
Licenses
Valid driver’s license required
Additional Information
Physical demand level: Light duty
Travel: Approximately 25% within the assigned region
Travel includes driving to up to five plants within a 50-mile radius
