Position Overview The Day Porter plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for AXIS students, staff, and families. This position performs daily custodial tasks, supports lunch coverage, and responds to minor maintenance needs throughout the school. As part of the operations team, the Day Porter collaborates closely with the Facilities Coordinator and the Operations team to ensure that the building is well‑maintained, stocked, and aligned with AXIS’s safety and cleanliness standards.
Key Responsibilities Daily Cleaning and Facility Support
Monitor and maintain cleanliness of restrooms, classrooms, hallways, and common areas throughout the day
Refill supplies such as paper towels, soap, tissues, and sanitizer stations
Remove trash and recycling from classrooms and offices as needed
Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and urgent cleaning needs during the school day
Ensure entryways and common areas are clean, welcoming, and free of hazards
Perform light outdoor work as needed (e.g., clearing snow/ice, sweeping, removing debris)
Secure facility by locking doors, windows, and setting alarms. Monitor building security throughout shift.
Events Support
Interact with and assist students, staff, visitors and groups during and after regular school hours to ensure needs are met regarding building use.
Provide set up, tear down, and cleaning after activities.
Respond to requests, last‑minute needs, unscheduled events, changes, etc. regarding building use.
Move and set up furniture and equipment as requested. Deliver supplies throughout the building
Lunch and Recess Support
Set up and take down cafeteria equipment (e.g., tables, chairs, trash bins)
Assist lunch aide with food preparation
Clean and sanitize tables
Assist with transitions and student safety during lunch
Minor Maintenance and Safety Tasks
Perform small‑scale repairs (e.g., tightening screws, replacing filters, adjusting door closers)
Monitor building systems and report any issues (e.g., plumbing, HVAC, lighting) to the Director of Operations
Ensure that equipment rooms and utility areas are tidy, organized, and locked as appropriate
Inventory and Facilities Requests
Replenish facility supplies and monitor stock levels of custodial products
Respond to Help Desk tickets related to cleanliness, repairs, or light maintenance
Assist with event setup and takedown (e.g., tables, signage, equipment movement)
Support safety drills and facilities‑related compliance tasks
Requirements Qualifications Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, stand/walk for extended periods, and perform cleaning/maintenance tasks
Experience in custodial, maintenance, or facilities support
Dependable, punctual, and self‑directed with a strong work ethic
Comfortable working in a school environment with children
Preferred
Prior experience in a school, daycare, or public facility setting
Basic knowledge of facility systems (HVAC, plumbing, etc.)
Bilingual English/Spanish
