Job Description About the Position A successful Yard Worker at Dunn Lumber is expected to learn and grow their ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities needed to uphold a safe, clean, accurate, and hospitable environment as material flows in and out of our yards. You will be a part of a highly skilled team that will utilize saws and forklifts to cut and move material, unload and check in material from vendor trucks, load walk‑in customer vehicles, and build lumber packages for transfer to other Dunn Lumber locations or delivery to customer jobsites.

A fully trained Yard Worker is capable of upholding The Legacy of Trust daily through trusted advice, quality materials, and excellent service, completing all expected operational tasks, maintaining a clean and organized yard, and building trust with customers and co‑workers by understanding their needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

Understand and observe all safety procedures and practices

Conduct yourself every day in a manner consistent with Dunn Lumber’s core values

Keep the yard in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our customers

Maintain knowledge of outside product codes for quick identification

Safely load customers with materials in an efficient and courteous fashion

Actively and accurately participate in building, shipping, receiving, loading, and culling

Load and receive both vendor and customer vehicles with a forklift

Safely move material on and off the cantilever and sheet goods racking

Put away material in a neat, presentable fashion and adjust for lost or damaged material

Use saws to cut sheet goods and dimensional products

Protect materials from inclement weather and cull materials to maintain quality stock

Other duties as assigned

Schedule This is a full‑time job working 40 hours per week with overtime eligibility.

Current available schedule(s) are:

Monday, Tuesday, Friday 6:40 am–6:05 pm; Saturday 7:40 am–5:05 pm

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 6:40 am–6:05 pm; Saturday 7:40 am–5:05 pm

Supervisor Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations This position has no prerequisite certificates, licenses, or registrations. Forklift and Saw training and certification will be provided.

Technical/Computer Skills Basic competency with computers and math, including entering login credentials, punching in/out for work, operating a barcode scanner, and understanding fractions as it relates to reading a tape measurer.

Physical Demands The employee performs heavy work, often lifting more than 50 pounds frequently. The employee regularly must stand, walk, climb ladders, sit, stoop, kneel, squat, or crouch. Specific vision and hearing abilities include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to hear moving vehicles and forklifts.

Work Environment Outdoor weather and warehouse conditions with forklifts, tractor‑trailers, and customer vehicle traffic. Noise level is moderate to high.

Training This is an entry‑level position with a paid two‑week training period and continued learning while employed. Training is completed on‑site with your supervisor or at a Training Yard. The training focuses on product knowledge, Point of Sale software, and yard operations (Monday–Friday 8:00 am–4:00 pm).
