Primary Function The Unarmed Security Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating the daily activities of unarmed security personnel within an ICE detention facility. This role ensures that all security operations are conducted in accordance with federal standards, facility protocols, and ethical practices. The supervisor plays a key role in maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly environment for detainees, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities

Supervise, schedule, and evaluate unarmed security officers across multiple shifts.

Provide training in facility procedures, de-escalation techniques, and emergency response.

Ensure staff compliance with ICE Performance-Based National Detention Standards (PBNDS) and DHS PREA regulations.

Monitor facility access points, housing units, recreation areas, and visitation zones.

Respond to incidents, disturbances, and emergencies with professionalism and composure.

Conduct routine inspections and patrols to ensure safety and rule enforcement.

Review and submit incident reports, shift logs, and disciplinary documentation.

Maintain accurate records of detainee movement, staff assignments, and security activities.

Assist in investigations and provide testimony when required.

Serve as liaison between security staff, ICE officials, and facility leadership.

Coordinate with medical, food service, and administrative departments to support secure operations.

Participate in emergency drills and contribute to facility readiness planning.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in security or corrections, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.

Strong knowledge of detention facility operations and federal compliance standards.

Must pass background checks, drug screening, and maintain federal security clearance.

Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.

Must be able to work full time hours, weekends, and holidays.

Bilingual (English/Spanish or other relevant languages).

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Must be a US citizen or permanent resident, Resided in the US for 3 years in the past 5 years.

FEMA IICS/NIMS

CPR/First Aid

Defensive Tactics or De-escalation Training

PREA Compliance Training

Has undergone a federal investigation at the level of Tier 2 or higher; has been granted favorable suitability/eligibility and has not had a break in service for more than 24 months.

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions

High-security detention facility with exposure to potentially volatile situations.

Requires standing, walking, and physical activity for extended periods.

May involve rotating shifts, weekends, and on-call availability.
