Overview This role involves 100 % travel throughout Terracon’s Eastern Midwest division (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia) to work on high‑profile projects such as transportation, commercial buildings, wind farms, and more.
General Responsibilities Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, steel). Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor’s representatives, and other stakeholders regarding site conditions, project requirements, and test results. Transport material samples to the laboratory, tabulate and submit data in written and digital reports, maintain equipment and vehicles, assist with technician scheduling and dispatch, and adhere to strict safety standards.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities
Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and procedures.
Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
Analyze data to verify accuracy before submission to the Project Manager.
Communicate information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed.
Assist higher‑level technicians on complex tasks.
Maintain assigned equipment and related calibration.
Drive a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
Follow safety rules and practices, perform pre‑task planning, and report safety concerns to management.
Maintain quality standards on all projects.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years of materials testing experience.
Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Required Certification
ACI certification in one or more of the following areas: Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
Concrete Strength Testing Technician
Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
Preferred Certification
Certifications in one or more of the following areas: NICET Level II in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
NICET Level II in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist).
ICC certification in any of the following: Reinforced Concrete, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post‑Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding.
American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
ASNT Level II in Visual Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Dye Penetrant Testing, Radiographic Testing, Ultrasonic Testing.
Other national, regional, state, and local materials‑related certifications based on applicant experience and written examination.
Remote Only Employees in this position work from home or another location and do not have a designated workspace at an office.
Compensation National standard salary range: $19.50–$27.50 per hour. Base range may be adjusted based on applicant location; final compensation is based on qualifications and experience.
