Responsibilities

35% – Lead the irrigation team staff of 0-3 individuals to repair, install, draw, and rebuild irrigation. Overall general maintenance of irrigation.

Monitor all trees, shrubs and turf for disease and insect damage; properly identify harmful insects and disease and determine when and how to provide control of landscape insects and disease utilizing a combination of biological, cultural, physical/mechanical and chemical management tools.

Assist team by performing tree and shrub pruning, fertilization, deep root injection, mowing, weed eating, blowing, and edging to ensure visually appealing and healthy landscape.

Maintain weekly schedules during different seasons, accordingly.

5% – Provide Mandatory Hazardous Weather preparedness and support during critical times. Schedule and lead the team to ensure that the grounds and areas of the facility are prepared for hazardous weather. Follow checklist Grounds Hazardous Weather Policy.

5% – Perform other grounds maintenance tasks as needed.

10% – Maintain weekly schedules of irrigation clocks during different seasons, accordingly.

35% – Operate heavy machinery around MUSC campus. This includes but not limited to aerial lifts, lulls, front end loaders, fork lifts, skid steers, bulldozers, dump trucks, backhoes and tractors.

Operate heavy equipment in compliance with MUSC's operating safety policies and procedures.

Provide recommendations for maintaining and improving environmental performance.

Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers.

Ensure company equipment, material, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner.

Collect and dispose of scrap, excess materials, and refuse.

10% – Pump and back flow pm's with maintenance; schedule back flow pm's in line with city regulations; report back to city with filled out forms on back flow checks; repair, inspect and maintain irrigation pumps around campus.

Minimum Requirements A high school diploma and four years custodial or grounds keeping or maintenance experience directly related to the area of employment.

Physical Requirements

Continuous – 6-8 hours per shift; ability to perform job functions in an upright position.

Frequent – 2-6 hours per shift; ability to perform job functions while walking/mobile.

Infrequent – 0-2 hours per shift; ability to climb and work from ladders.

Continuous – ability to work outdoors in all weather and temperature extremes.

Infrequent – ability to work from elevated areas.

Frequent – ability to perform job functions from kneeling positions.

Frequent – ability to bend at the waist.

Frequent – ability to lift and carry weights of 50 lbs. or greater, a distance of 20 feet, unassisted.

Frequent – ability to lift and carry weights of 100 lbs. or greater, assisted.

Frequent – ability to lift objects, up to 15 lbs., from floor level to height of 36 inches, unassisted.

Frequent – ability to move materials weighing 50 lbs. or more, from ground level to truck beds, unassisted.

Continuous – ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected.

Continuous – ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.

Frequent – ability to control movement of power operated equipment, i.e. polishers.

Continuous – ability to be qualified physically for respirator use.

Frequent – ability to push/pull carts, mowers, etc.

Additional Requirements Some positions require ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license.

Some positions require successful completion of DHEC certification as a commercial pesticide applicator.
