Job Summary
Under general supervision, independently provide advanced and comprehensive graduate and undergraduate academic advising and support services of diverse scope and complexity within the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences programs. Responsible for developing, interpreting, analyzing, and implementing a wide variety of academic and other administrative policies in evaluating student petitions, assessing individual academic performance and progress toward satisfaction of degree requirements, and monitoring student progress from matriculation through degree conferral. Analyze and solve complex academic problems and refer students to campus community resources. Communicate important information to students through programming, website content, and recruitment events. Ensure the completion of administrative tasks including graduate student funding, graduate admissions and recruitment, course planning and scheduling, program review, and more.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience providing counseling and guidance to undergraduate/graduate students in a college/university environment, including recognizing problems requiring specialized professional attention and making well‑chosen referrals.
Understanding and knowledge of degree requirements and university policies.
Analytical skills to evaluate, interpret, and problem solve complex policies, procedures, data and reference materials that apply to students and programs.
Analytical, problem‑solving, and counseling skills to identify and determine appropriate level of advising or referral services for individual students varying backgrounds and perspectives.
Writing skills to compose and edit correspondence, reports, and informational materials to communicate with applicants, faculty, students, alumni, donors, industry affiliates/agencies, and high‑level administration.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Organizational skills to independently determine workload priorities, to structure the administration of the undergraduate and graduate programs, and to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with the Student Information System (Banner). Writing, editing and proofreading skills for preparing correspondence, reports, reviews, and informational materials to correspond with applicants, faculty, students, student services offices and off‑campus agencies and organizations.
Knowledge of UC policies regarding Privacy of Information; and of State and Federal Laws governing confidentiality of student records.
Adept at responding to the needs of underrepresented students.
Reading and reasoning skills to effectively interpret and apply complex policies, philosophies and requirements of the department, college, and university.
