Main Purpose Of The Role The Léman Manhattan Preparatory School Lower School Associate Teacher is part of an exciting and collaborative Lower School Division that promotes and nurtures the education of students by planning and tailoring courses of study, demonstrates an understanding of child development and the appropriate standards and expectations for the grade across all subject areas and creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students utilizing the Responsive Classroom approach. As an international school with a global outlook, Léman Manhattan uses the International Baccalaureate Program to equip students with the knowledge and skills to become tomorrow’s successful leaders. Key Responsibilities
Assists in the implementation of daily lesson plans under the direction of the Head Teacher
Facilitates instruction as directed by Head Teacher, in learning centers, and small groups
Works with students to meet individual needs and support personalized learning
Assists in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest (learning) centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies
Supervises the classroom when the Head Teacher is out of the room
Helps with general housekeeping and record keeping tasks
Provides student support by monitoring halls, study periods, playground, and lunchroom
Assists Head Teacher in management of student behavior using Responsive Classroom
Assists Head Teacher in maintaining safe, secure, and healthy educational environment by following and enforcing school standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
Assists Head Teacher with administering, monitoring, and evaluating student work
Communicates in a positive, professional manner with parents at all times, keeping them informed of student progress and potential concerns.
Chaperones class trips, class performances, and events
Assists the Head Teacher with other duties as assigned
Utilizes learning management and student information systems provided by the school
Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school; demonstrates behavior that is professional and ethical as identified in Employee Handbook (inside and outside of school)
Continues to grow professionally by participating in educational opportunities, reads professional publications, and participates in professional organizations
Demonstrates flexibility and a positive attitude toward new challenges and growth opportunities
Participates in school-wide events; attends during and after-school functions in support of school community
Completes a minimum of two duties as assigned by Division Head (number of duties may vary depending on role)
Attends and participates in all required faculty and staff meetings and serves on school committees as required
Completes responsibilities as assigned by Division Head based on student and school needs (e.g. test proctoring)
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred)
Certifications or licenses specific to age group
Commitment to the school’s mission, core values, and inclusion statement
Experience in related field
