Overview Performs daily kitchen duties to provide a safe, clean, and sanitized environment for our patients, residents, customers, and partners with quality service in mind. Prepares and plans foods according to menu, order, diet, and standardized recipe and portion control. Prepares food to be palatable, appetizing, and attractive. Utilizes leftovers to avoid waste. Properly labels and dates food products for storage. Maintains a clean and sanitized work area. May be required to work overtime and alternate shifts and has the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Determines food items and prepares them for service

Prepares food from scratch that is appetizing and appealing

Executes culinary knife skills

Reads and follows standardized recipes

Works from menu, par level and number of persons to be served

Prepares food to order

Observes and tests foods to determine proper doneness

Dishes meals

Orders supplies

Maintains proper food temperature log sheets

Maintains proper cooking/quick chill log sheets

Portions and dishes food on plates according to diet ticket; weighs items when necessary

Performs dishwashing as necessary

Knows various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling, etc.)

Provides direct patient care; takes patient meal orders, corrects food items within allowed diets, uses EPIC as needed, and consults patients on meal choices

Calculates intake per diet guidelines and requirements

Prepares therapeutic food items following prescribed diets and modifies diets as needed

Manages time between cooking and taking orders

Handles patient concerns and complaints

Prepares food for conference room or other large department functions as requested

Maintains a clean and sanitized work area, tables, counters, cabinets, ovens, and other kitchen equipment using proper sanitation techniques

Adheres to department safety and sanitation regulations

Uses protective barriers (gloves, apron, proper hair covering)

Provides excellent customer service skills

Works well on a team and independently

Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent preferred. One year of experience as a cook required. Internal training required. Graduate of vocational school or culinary program preferred.

Certification and Licensure State Food Safety Sanitation Certification per department requirements required within 90 days.
