About the Facility Saint Joseph Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is an award‑winning facility offering short‑term rehab, long‑term and skilled nursing care in a quiet, residential neighborhood of Dorchester.

Job Responsibilities

Handle, prepare, and store all food according to center procedures and safe food‑handling guidelines.

Follow established menus using standardized recipes.

Prepare foods, including altered textures and therapeutic diets, as directed by the Registered Dietitian.

Substitute menu items after consultation with the Registered Dietitian.

Cook and serve foods at proper temperatures and within appropriate time frames.

Prepare appealing meal alternates at each meal to accommodate resident preference.

Prepare a la carte menu items when required.

Prepare special holiday meals based on recipes approved by the Registered Dietitian.

Manage time efficiently to ensure meals arrive on the units within ten minutes of posted mealtimes.

Ensure dietary staff delivers and retrieves food trucks and trays in a timely fashion so that resident units are clean and uncluttered.

Supervise dishwashing to ensure dishes, pots, pans, cups, trays, and utensils are clean, sanitized, and dried.

Maintain food‑service workspaces in clean and safe condition according to center procedures.

Communicate with nursing and other departments throughout the shift to maximize resident satisfaction.

Assist the Dietary Manager with preparation for regulatory inspection.

Demonstrate the ability to lead a team to accomplish tasks efficiently and productively.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

One‑year experience as a cook in an institutional food service, healthcare, or hospital setting preferred.

Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations in units of measure.

Read, write, and speak English; ability to communicate with others in English; other languages a plus.

ServSafe certification preferred or eligibility to become certified.
