Job Responsibilities
Handles, prepares, and stores all food according to center procedures and safe food handling guidelines.
Follows the established menus using standardized recipes.
Prepares foods, including altered textures and therapeutic diets, in line with dietitian-approved cycles.
Substitutes menu items after consultation with the Registered Dietitian.
Cook and serve foods at the proper temperatures and within appropriate time frames.
Uses food supplies efficiently to prevent waste.
Operates equipment safely to prevent injury, following manufacturer and supervisor directions.
Prepares appealing meal alternatives to accommodate resident preference.
Prepares a la carte menu items whenever required.
Prepares special holiday meals based on approved recipes.
Manages time to ensure meals arrive on units within ten minutes of posted meal times.
Ensures dietary staff delivers and retrieves food trucks and trays timely, keeping resident units clean.
Supervises dishwashing to guarantee clean, sanitized, and dried dishes, pots, pans, cups, trays, and utensils.
Maintains food service workspaces in a clean and safe condition at all times.
Communicates with nursing and other departments throughout shifts to maximize resident satisfaction.
Assists the Dietary Manager with preparation for regulatory inspections.
Attends in‑service education programs as assigned and applies knowledge to duties.
Demonstrates leadership to accomplish tasks efficiently and productively.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One‑year experience as a cook in institutional food service, healthcare, or hospital setting preferred.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English effectively; other languages are a plus.
ServSafe certification required.
