Job Summary
Maintain control of children and vehicular traffic at crossing sites to ensure children cross safely.
Scope of Duties
Direct actions of children at street intersections to ensure safe crossing.
Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and report infractions to police.
Observe vehicles and pedestrians near school crosswalks to report suspicious vehicles or activity.
Notify about uncooperative or abusive child behavior.
Maintain consistent attendance; goal is no more than two excused absences per year.
Follow all safety regulations, policies and procedures.
Report unsafe conditions to the field supervisor immediately or within the shift.
Provide exceptional customer service to promote a positive image and foster pride and professionalism.
Supervision Reports to Andy Frain Services' Field Supervisor. Operates with minimal supervision.
Qualifications & Requirements
Work independently under minimal supervision.
Knowledge of community geography and locations of important buildings.
Observational skills: analyze situations, report and record them clearly and completely.
React quickly and calmly to emergency situations.
Good general intelligence and emotional stability.
Interaction skills: tactfully interact with the public, especially children.
Minimum age 18.
Physically able to perform crossing guard duties in any weather.
Read, write, and speak English; interpret documents such as safety rules, instructions, procedure manuals.
Attend mandatory School Crossing Guard class.
Tools and Equipment Needed Stop paddle, reflective vest, whistle, optional equipment such as cell phone, rain gear, reflective gloves, reflective cap, first aid equipment, proper warm safe winter gear, traffic cones.
