Overview
Maintain control of children and vehicular traffic at crossing sites to ensure that children cross safely at designated sites. Responsibilities
Direct actions of children at street intersections to ensure safe crossing. Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and report infractions to the police. Observe vehicles and pedestrians in the area of school crosswalks to report suspicious vehicles or activity. Notify uncooperative or abusive children. Provide regular and predictable work attendance with no more than two excused absences per year. Follow all safety regulations, policies and procedures. Report all unsafe conditions to the field supervisor immediately or no later than the end of shift. Provide exceptional customer service to promote a positive image, constructive working environment, and pride within the workplace and community. Qualifications & Requirements
Ability to work independently under minimal supervision. Knowledge of the community geography and location of important buildings. Analytical observation and clear, complete reporting. Quick and calm response to emergency situations. Good general intelligence and emotional stability. Tactful interaction with the public, especially children. Minimum 18 years of age. Physically able to perform duties of a crossing guard in any weather conditions. Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively. Must attend a mandatory School Crossing Guard class.
