Description Incorporated in 1955, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi‑generational community. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.

We are searching for a Youth Basketball Scorekeeper to supervise and keep the scorebook and clock for the park district’s youth basketball games. The position is part‑time and will run from the beginning of December to mid‑March. Hours are on weekends (mostly Saturdays with select Sundays), primarily at the RecPlex or Central Community Center. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age and able to successfully pass a criminal background check. The starting pay is $15.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. We also offer benefits for park district facility and programming usage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Arrive at the assigned site 15 minutes before the first scheduled game time while wearing a park district‑issued staff shirt.

Work with a second‑person crew—one keeps score in the scorebook, the other operates the clock and scoreboard.

Set up the scorer’s table and chairs, scorebook and scoreboard; set up spectator seating and players’ areas.

Inspect the playing area to ensure it is safe for play.

Submit completed timesheets and result cards at the completion of the games and return them to the Athletic Department by the end of the next following business day to receive timely payment.

After games are finished, put away the scoreboard and scorer’s table, clean the bleachers, spectator seating areas and the gym (if applicable).

Work at multiple sites during the season as required; the Athletic Staff will inform you of site set‑up.

Act as a liaison between park district patrons and management.

Attend necessary staff meetings.

Follow all park district rules and policies.

SECONDARY DUTIES

Perform additional functions as assigned, which may be considered essential.

Carry out any other duties assigned by the Athletics Supervisor, Athletics Manager, Superintendent of Recreation, Director of Recreation, and/or the Executive Director.

In an emergency, perform all other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 16 years of age.

Must be able to operate the scoreboard and keep score in the scorebook.

Must complete the required timesheets and result cards and submit them to Athletics in a timely manner.

Must communicate effectively to coordinate work, ensure safety, and respond in emergencies.

Must demonstrate good judgment and common sense; be able to recognize unsafe conditions and emergencies and respond accordingly.

Must stand and/or sit for long periods; be able to stoop, bend, and kneel as needed; occasionally lift 50 pounds from a squat position.

Must be reliable and able to work independently with regular attendance.

Must abide by the guidelines and policies set by the Park District.

Represent the Park District’s Athletic Department professionally at all times and display a positive attitude toward the district, its employees, and programs.

Additional Information Due to district needs, evening and weekend hours may be required; your work schedule may vary.
