The Salvation Army Emergency Lodge provides a wide variety of services to those in need. Since 1979, the 120‑bed Emergency Lodge, located at 1730 N 7th St. in Milwaukee, has provided emergency shelter to homeless individuals and families with children. More than 80% of residents successfully move from shelter to safe, affordable housing each year.
About the Role The Food Services Worker will prepare, cook and serve food for the residents of the Emergency Lodge Homeless Shelter; clean the kitchen, dining room and food service areas according to sanitation and safety standards.
Responsibilities
Prepare and cook meals according to established menus
Prepare bag breakfasts and lunches
Prepare and save hot dinners for clients as requested by the Case Management staff
Ensure proper rotation of food inventory and dispose of outdated foods
Wash, cut, and prepare foods designated for cooking
Prepare and serve beverages
Maintain sanitation, health and safety standards in work areas
Maintain the cleanliness of the Walk‑In Cooler, Freezer and Dry Goods Store Room
Substitute for or assist other Food Service Worker/Cooks during emergencies, rush periods or absences
Conduct regular inventory of food and food service supplies and report any needs to the Food Services Supervisor
Assist with the maintenance of all kitchen equipment and communicate equipment needs to the Food Services Supervisor
Accept and store daily deliveries
Interact with residents and staff in a friendly and professional manner
Work with Case Management staff to ensure that special dietary needs of residents are met
Understand and comply with all safety, sanitation and food handling standards
Understand and comply with The Salvation Army's Mission Statement
Comply with all Salvation Army policy and procedures
Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year experience in food services, institutional cooking or related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.
Certification: Serve Safe Certification.
