RECREATION ASSISTANT FITNESS/SPORTS/AQUATICS SUPPORT

This position is located in the Mid‑Atlantic Region, Fleet & Family Readiness Program, Fleet Readiness Department in the Fitness/Sports. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of support duties to operate fitness, sports, or aquatic facilities as needed.
Administrative Support (includes but not limited to): Provides customer service to patrons using the facility, including greeting customers and checking identification cards to ensure only authorized users are entering the facility. Issues and receives equipment, registers patrons for facility use, events, and/or classes, and answers telephone inquiries about facility hours, upcoming special events, and programs. Completes the Daily Activity Reports, handles cash where fees apply, verifies the amount of money collected, and drops the cashier bag in the drop safe. Assists in planning, scheduling, and publicizing various activities and maintaining related supplies to attract and motivate participants. Oversees the sale of retail items associated with activities and evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) fitness activities from the standpoint of participants’ responses, resources, and program objectives. Monitors patrons, volunteers and contractors at the assigned program/event, reports any issues to management, and assists in the selection of fitness, sports, and aquatics activities to be offered within the required basic program categories and additional ones possible through available resources. Ensures facility and sporting fields are open and/or closed at the posted time, monitors security and activity within the facility, circulates among patrons to assist with basic use of equipment, and maintains good order and discipline. Maintains athletic playing surfaces properly, performs general janitorial services to keep interior spaces clean and orderly, makes minor repairs to facilities and equipment when appropriate, and reports maintenance problems or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
Instructional Support (includes but not limited to): Monitors assigned participants in indoor and outdoor activities, conducts instructional classes in the assigned recreational area, performs basic fitness orientation, identifies and corrects unsafe fitness techniques, demonstrates procedures common to the activities, and instructs in the use of related equipment. Establishes and reviews the schedule of events, conducts tours, sets‑up and prepares gymnasiums, facilities, playing fields prior to scheduled start times for events such as lap swim, lifeguard training, exercise programs, races, pool parties, sporting events, etc., and ensures adherence to regulations and safety procedures.
Facility/Equipment Maintenance (includes but not limited to): Ensures athletic playing surfaces are maintained, safe, and ready for play. Assists in cleaning and maintaining equipment/facilities, keeps inventory, performs general janitorial services, cleans interior spaces such as floors, workout areas, mirrors, bathrooms, and lockers, straightens equipment and accessories, makes minor repairs to facilities and equipment when appropriate, and reports maintenance problems, material deficiencies, and unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
Requirements
Must pass all applicable records and background check.
Must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certification.
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain the following certificates within 90 days of hire: Automated External Defibrillator Certification, Blood‑borne Pathogen Certification, and Navy Basic Fitness Certification.
