Highway Maintenance Worker II: Medium Equipment Operator (61033458)

Job Responsibilities Operates and maintains medium duty equipment such as tandem dump truck, skid steer, self‑propelled belt loader and large‑mower tractor; performs duties in manual labor maintenance including clearing right‑of‑ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, repairing bridges, paving driveways, and laying sideline/cross‑line pipe. Operates 5 to 10‑yard standard dump truck for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials and debris. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic and protect workers, motorists, and equipment. Assists in emergencies and inclement weather operations that may require work outside normal hours. When crew is in an on‑call status, employee must be available 24 hours a day. Assists in operation of backhoe, excavator, motor grader, slope mower, spreader, ditcher tractor and front‑end loader. Operates and maintains electric/gas‑powered tools including chainsaws and pole saws and uses hand tools in various phases of roadway maintenance. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
Six (6) months of related work experience or an approved equivalence.
A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required; A Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) must be obtained within six (6) months of placement.
Physical requirements: Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, twist, climb, balance, kneel, push, pull, grasp, and manipulate objects up to 50 lbs. The position involves walking for extended periods, traversing rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to traffic and environmental hazards. Work may be required outside normal hours, especially during inclement weather or emergencies.
