Lifeworks is hiring full‑time

Assistant Teacher/Counselor (Residential Counselor)

to work with individuals with ID/DD in one of our residential programs. We are a nonprofit human service agency that provides adults with developmental disabilities with the opportunity to live engaged and meaningful lives. We're searching for an enthusiastic individual who will bring their personality, an independent work ethic, and a strong belief in enhancing the lives of those we serve. Candidates must have related or direct experience working with the community we serve.

Essential Duties

Promotes optimal health for individuals through routine, preventive, and emergency health care.

Assists with all hands‑on direct care including showering, toileting, shaving, brushing teeth, and meal‑time assistance.

Ensures that residential environments are safe and secure and free from harm.

Provides education, training, counseling, and physical assistance to achieve ISP goals in areas such as functional academics, domestic skills, health and personal hygiene, social and leisure skills, communication skills, community mobility, self‑esteem, and money management.

Develops, writes, and presents annual ISPs and semi‑annual assessments in consultation with other residential staff and directors.

Provides transportation to individuals as necessary.

Communicates with family, friends, guardians, funding sources, advocates, volunteers, and employers to facilitate consistent programming and support.

Performs case‑management duties including maintaining confidential files, reviewing cases, documenting activities, and training; attends regular meetings as necessary.

Requirements

Experience working with individuals with ID/DD.

High school diploma or GED; experience in a related field is preferred.

Must pass fingerprint background check, CORI, DPPC, and driving background checks.

Valid driver’s license required.

Valid MAP certification is preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
