Position Summary The Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Trainee – Ultrasonic Testing (UT) position is an entry‑level role for individuals interested in the UT method who have not yet achieved certification. The trainee works under the direct supervision of a certified UT inspector, gaining practical experience, foundational knowledge, and technical skills necessary to qualify for future certification. The maximum duration of employment as an NDT Trainee is one year, during which the individual is expected to demonstrate satisfactory progress, accumulate the required on‑the‑job hours, and pass the ultrasonic test to be certified.
Essential Functions
Conduct regular and complex testing under the supervision of a material or product inspector.
Examine products for possible internal or external defects.
Prepare material for examination by cleaning, identifying, and setting it up.
Learn to read or interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and scanning procedures to accomplish ultrasonic setups, tests, and report preparation.
Operate all instruments and test systems.
Read technical instructions and mill instructions.
Other duties assigned by supervisor.
After acquiring 400 hours of on‑job experience, complete written and practical examinations. Upon passing, employee will advance to Level I.
Essential Skills & Abilities
Follow written instructions in techniques and methods.
Use Microsoft Office 365 and Windows.
Basic Required Skills
Basic computer skills.
High‑school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Required Skills
Experience with root cause analysis, ultrasonic testing, aerospace materials, engineering/quality specifications, and programming capabilities.
Formal NDT UT training (40 hours for Level 1).
Work Schedule & Salary Work schedule: Monday–Thursday (2 pm–12:30 am). Salary range: $23.00–$28.00.
