Overview The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Med – Immunology/Rheumatology, is looking for a dedicated Researcher Assistant to join their team. This position would provide technical support within the Merriman Lab Group in their research on the mechanism of the gout flare. This support includes, but is not restricted to processing of incoming blood samples (including DNA and RNA extraction), genomic analytics, and ex vivo PBMC stimulation assays.

General Responsibilities As a Researcher Assistant, you will contribute to the daily operations of research projects under the close supervision of experienced researchers. This role involves performing standard research tasks, including sample processing, basic data analysis, and maintaining accurate records. Your support will be crucial in helping senior team members execute complex protocols and ensuring the smooth functioning of the lab. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals. Runs assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc.

Receives, enters data, processes and performs DNA/RNA extractions on incoming samples to the Gout Registry and other Divisional clinical trials.

Assists in the maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment and supplies.

Performs basic statistical data analysis and assists in omics analysis.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Hourly Range $16.50 - $26.80

Qualifications Associate’s degree in a related field OR High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences Experience in programming languages, in particular, R preferred.
