City of Ellsworth – Public Works Department The City of Ellsworth is seeking a dependable, safety-focused individual to join our Public Works team as a Full-Time Truck Driver/Laborer. This position plays a vital role in maintaining safe roadways, supporting seasonal operations, and providing essential services to the community.

Key Responsibilities

Operate trucks and equipment for winter snowplowing and summer road maintenance

Perform general labor and related duties as assigned

Exercise sound judgment when evaluating situations and making operational decisions

Work effectively with co‑workers, other City departments, City officials, and the public

Operate trucks, including dump trucks, plow trucks, and other specialized municipal vehicles, to transport materials such as gravel, asphalt, and road salt.

Perform snow and ice control operations, including plowing, sanding, and salting roads during winter weather conditions.

Assist in road maintenance activities, such as pothole patching, resurfacing, grading, and drainage improvements.

Load and unload materials using truck‑mounted equipment or manually as needed.

Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections to ensure operational safety and report mechanical issues.

Perform minor maintenance on trucks and equipment, such as checking fluid levels, replacing filters, and ensuring proper tire inflation.

Follow all safety procedures, traffic regulations, and municipal guidelines while operating vehicles and equipment.

Assist with work zone traffic control by setting up barricades, signs, and directing traffic as needed.

Participate in emergency response situations, including storm cleanup and road hazard removal.

Maintain accurate logs and reports on vehicle usage, maintenance, and work completed.

Minimum Qualifications

A valid Class B CDL with a clean driving record (no infractions or violations)

Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screening (required for all CDL positions)

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Strong teamwork and communication skills

Work Conditions & Physical Requirements:

Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather.

May require working extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays, particularly during emergency situations such as snowstorms.

Exposure to loud noise, dust, fumes, and vibrations from heavy equipment and road maintenance activities.

Work may involve exposure to traffic hazards and requires high situational awareness.

Ability to lift and carry up to [50-75] pounds regularly.

Ability to sit for extended periods while driving and operating equipment.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb in and out of trucks frequently.

Hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity required for vehicle operation and equipment handling.

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice.

Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
