Summary Chatham High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our athletic department as an Assistant Varsity/JV Boys Volleyball Coach for the upcoming season. This seasonal position offers the opportunity to work closely with the head coach, student‑athletes, and the broader school community to promote the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth through the sport of volleyball. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the game, a passion for mentoring young athletes, and a commitment to fostering a positive and competitive team environment.

Responsibilities

Assist the head coach in planning and conducting daily practices, drills, and game strategies.

Support the development of student‑athletes’ skills, including technical and tactical aspects of volleyball.

Help organize and supervise team activities, including games, tournaments, and team meetings.

Provide guidance and mentorship to student‑athletes, promoting sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork.

Assist in the evaluation of player performance and provide constructive feedback.

Collaborate with the head coach to develop and implement training plans and conditioning programs.

Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team activities and expectations.

Attend all practices, games, and team events, ensuring a consistent presence and support for the team.

Uphold the school's policies and guidelines regarding athletics and student conduct.

Requirements

NJ Teaching Credential OR NJ Substitute Credential

Previous coaching experience in volleyball or a strong background as a player at the high school or collegiate level.

Knowledge of volleyball rules, strategies, and techniques.

Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire student‑athletes.

Ability to work collaboratively with the head coach, other coaching staff, and school personnel.

Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.

First Aid and CPR certification preferred; willingness to obtain certification if not currently held.

Availability to attend practices and games during the season, including evenings and weekends.

A passion for mentoring young athletes and a commitment to their personal and athletic development.

Salary $6,214.80

This is not a benefits eligible position.
