Summary

Chatham High School is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to lead our sailing program as the Head Sailing Coach for the Fall season. This seasonal position requires a passionate coach who can inspire and develop student‑athletes in the sport of sailing, fostering both skill development and team spirit. The Head Sailing Coach will be responsible for creating a positive and competitive environment, promoting sportsmanship, and ensuring the safety of all participants during practices and competitions.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement a comprehensive sailing curriculum that caters to various skill levels, from beginners to advanced sailors.

Organize and conduct daily practices, ensuring they are engaging, educational, and safe.

Coach student‑athletes during competitions, providing guidance on strategy, technique, and teamwork.

Monitor and evaluate the progress of each athlete, providing constructive feedback and support.

Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes respect, sportsmanship, and personal growth.

Collaborate with the athletic department to schedule practices, competitions, and travel arrangements.

Ensure all safety protocols are followed and that all equipment is properly maintained.

Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team activities and expectations.

Organize team meetings and events to promote camaraderie and team building.

Stay current with sailing techniques, rules, and safety regulations to ensure compliance and best practices.

Requirements

NJ Teaching Credential OR NJ Substitute Credential

Previous coaching experience in sailing or a related sport, preferably at the high school or collegiate level.

Strong knowledge of sailing techniques, rules, and safety practices.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire student‑athletes.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate practice and competition schedules.

Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

A passion for sailing and a commitment to developing young athletes both on and off the water.

Must pass a background check in accordance with school district policies.

Salary:

$6,732.70 per season

This is not a benefits eligible position.
