Assistant Teacher – Children’s School (Youth & Family Programs)
Seasonal employment at Chautauqua Institution.
Overview Chautauqua’s Children’s School is a developmental preschool for children ages 3‑5. The program offers social, recreational, and educational activities, including themed learning and guest speakers.
Responsibilities
Create a safe, welcoming environment for all program participants.
Maintain constant supervision of classroom groups.
Supervise activities outside the typical program spaces.
Facilitate events and activities as directed.
Support daily activities and manage transition times.
Engage with children during special program area activities.
Assist with maintaining and organizing program facilities.
Manage group and individual behavior.
Respond promptly in emergencies.
Qualifications
Education and training in early childhood education or a related field (entry level positions consider relevant experience).
3–5 years of experience preferred.
Ability to adapt lessons to diverse learners.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Compensation Starting at $16.00 / hour, with potential to earn up to $18.00 / hour based on experience and qualifications.
Work Schedule Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. (average 25 hours per week). Schedules may include evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on business needs. A mandatory three‑day staff training session will be held the week before the first day of operations.
Referral Program Active employees who refer a new hire that remains employed for at least 90 days (or 30 days for seasonal roles) receive a $500 referral bonus (taxes withheld).
Living Arrangements Employer‑provided housing is not available; applicants should secure independent housing or reside within commuting distance.
