Purification Technician I/II Shift:

12‑hour rotating 6a‑6p / 6p‑6a

Summary:

The Purification Technician performs fundamental tasks within a GMP environment by cleaning and maintaining the workplace, cleaning, assembling and disassembling operating equipment per applicable procedures, assisting with process control manipulations and maintaining records and logs in accordance with current standard procedures.

Level I Responsibilities

Perform general housekeeping in compliance with high standards required of a pharmaceutical operation.

Demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of GMP requirements.

Keep facilities, equipment, product and co‑workers safe and properly safeguarded.

Dispense and prepare necessary cleaning/sanitization reagents to clean and sanitize production areas.

Assemble, disassemble, clean and sterilize production equipment (e.g. filters, tanks).

Operate production equipment (e.g. centrifuge, ultra‑filtration units, columns, autoclaves, pasteurizers).

Operate forklift in a safe and efficient manner.

Perform bulk processing and filtration involving processing parameters (pH, weights, suspension).

Document real‑time production run and maintain accurate records and logs.

Prepare buffer solutions and properly store process intermediates.

Level II Responsibilities

Perform all duties described at the Level I Purification Technician.

Assemble, disassemble and operate production equipment (e.g. spectrophotometer).

Perform pH and buffer addition.

Prepare samples.

Perform calculations for processing.

Weigh all powders, chemicals, reagents, perform all calculations, preparations and reagent additions.

Perform all routine operations associated with actual bulk preparation.

Perform all pre and post filtration integrity tests.

Recognize and identify mechanical and safety hazards to the proper individuals.

Additional Responsibilities Isolate target proteins from intermediate materials and process to a sterile bulk and deliver for filling.

Requirements Level I

Basic math skills, basic computer skills, mechanical aptitude, detail oriented, ability to work in a team environment and exercise good judgment.

High school diploma or equivalent. Bio‑works certificate preferred.

Level II

Minimum 12 months as a Technician in his/her respective department before consideration for advancement to Purification Tech II.

Minimum of a “meets expectations” overall rating on most recent performance review.

Occupational Demands Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk continuously during the shift, and work rotating shifts.

Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms.

Exposure to chemicals, electrical manufacturing equipment, hand tools and moving machinery.

Exposure to high levels of noise and to extreme cold below 32°.

Occasional entry into confined spaces requiring kneeling and squatting.

Operates forklifts, tractors and power equipment. Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, safety shoes, gloves and garments.
