Food Rescue Assistant This is a full-time, hourly-paid position. 40 hours per week and 10 days of vacation annually Location Address: 2652 Old Rocky Ridge Road, Hoover, AL 35216

Job Description: As a Food Rescue Assistant, you play a vital role in recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers involved in our food rescue and distribution efforts. You will work closely with the Food Rescue US app, ensuring seamless operations across the Birmingham metro area.

Key Responsibilities:

Recruit and train food rescue volunteers as well as food distribution volunteers.

Provide holistic care and encouragement to all volunteers.

Interact with and assist Food Rescue Heroes when they are at the office.

Host volunteer orientations to onboard new volunteers effectively.

Update and maintain local online serve platforms with ongoing volunteer information.

Ensure daily food rescue operations across the entire Birmingham metro area are claimed, assigned, or covered.

Resolve food rescue issues promptly to maintain trust with donors and recipients.

Ensure accurate data collection and reporting on rescued food.

Solicit, educate, and onboard new food donation partners and volunteers.

Conduct quality control checks with rescuers to identify opportunities for improving the food rescue experience.

Help coordinate with GKC (staff and volunteers) drivers as needed, ensuring daily schedules are updated and posted.

Interact with volunteers on social media platforms to increase volunteer participation and engagement.

Source volunteer care appreciation gifts from local community partners.

Enter data into appropriate forms to maintain proper records on in-kind gifts received.

Provide volunteer care through regular thank‑you notes, phone calls, emails, texts, etc., to encourage and honor volunteers for their service.

Willingness to work after hours & on weekends if needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Operational Support: Food Rescue: Pick up relevant food rescues en route to the office

Work Environment & Maintenance: All staff are responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of their immediate workspace. This includes, but is not limited to:

Basic daily tidying and organization.

Regularly taking out trash and recyclables.

Ensuring that shared equipment and common areas are left clean after use.

Reporting any maintenance or sanitation concerns promptly.

Maintaining a clean and safe environment is essential to our collective well‑being and reflects our commitment to stewardship and respect for shared spaces.

Qualifications:

Previous experience in volunteer management or community outreach is a plus.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.

Strong organizational and problem‑solving abilities.

Proficiency in using technology and online platforms.

Passion for food rescue, hunger relief, and community engagement.

Notes:

When there is a lull in time, assess additional tasks in other areas of the organization.

Bring forth ideas to improve teamwork, logistics, and organizational efficiency.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds, as you will be helping volunteers unload food.
